Folk – Geoff Lakeman
THIS EVENT IS AT THE ABBEY THEATRE STUDIO NOT THE MALTINGS ARTS THEATRE
Geoff Lakeman is a leading exponent of the rare Crane Duet concertina and performer of songs ranging from his own compositions, West Country songs, English, Irish and Scottish folk to music as varied as Jimmie Rodgers, the Louvin Brothers, Richard Thompson and Randy Newman. After spending his working life as a Fleet Street journalist while his sons Sean, Sam and Seth achieved international renown as folk musicians, Geoff has just released his aptly named debut album, ‘After all these years’.
Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner have been singing together for quite a few years now!
Between them they play guitar, recorder, English concertina and a variety of whistles. They both agree, however, that their voices are their most important instruments. Their resulting style is a unique blend of stunning song and harmony, and a humour which takes their audience on a roller-coaster ride from high tragedy to ingenious smut.
Aberdeenshire singer and New Roots 2016 finalist, Iona Fyfe, has become one of Scotland’s finest young ballad singers, rooted deeply in the singing traditions of the North East of Scotland. A finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2017, Iona embraces the repertoire of her native Aberdeenshire throughout the UK and Europe.
