Folk Festival Workshops – Shooting Roots
St Albans Folk Festival Workshops for young people with Shooting Roots
Shooting Roots is the folk arts project run by and for young people. Join us at St. Albans Folk Festival this year at the Maltings Arts Theatre and try out our Funky World Band and Song workshops. You might have been playing or singing for years or you might be just trying it out for the first time. Whatever your instrument or level you’re sure to gain new skills and make new friends.
12.30-1.30 Funky World Band Taster workshop
Tambourine or tuba, harmonica or harpsichord – whatever your instrument and whatever your level, there’s a place for you in our Funky World Band. Come and join our fun, friendly and laid-back session making music. It’s a folk tune, but not how you’ve heard before. See you there! Ages 12-18.
1.45-2.45 Give-it-a-go song workshop
Chorus and verse; high part and tune; shanties and rounds. If you fancy getting your lungs working this afternoon and meeting some like-minded people, come and find your voice with Shooting Roots. Guaranteed to have you humming for the rest of the summer and no need to read music! Ages 12-18.
Tickets: One workshop £3, both workshops £5.
You can also see young folk musicians in action at the festival concert at 7.45pm, featuring the Dovetail Trio and Granny’s Attic plus New Roots finalist Lizzy Hardingham.
Concert youth ticket £7.50, all-in youth ticket covering both workshops and the festival concert £10. You can buy tickets at St Albans Central Library, book by phone on 0333 666 3366, online at http://www.maltingsartstheatre.co.uk/, or pay on the door.
