Folk – Alison Frosdick & Jack Burnaby + BLÁNID & Turnwrest

1st February - 20.00 Book

Growing up in Somerset and Hampshire, Alison Frosdick and Jack Burnaby are well-rooted in the folk music of England. Their singing is usually accompanied by Jack’s squeezeboxes and Alison’s whistle but on their new highly acclaimed CD, Adzooks!, they have introduced more textures including cello, piano and guitar.

Since their previous visit to St Albans, when they sang in the 2017 St Albans Folk Festival concert as winners of the Watford Folk Club’s song writing competition, they have taken their music to a wider audience. In 2018, they played at a string of festivals, including Sidmouth, Broadstairs and Whitby, where they also gave several inspiring workshops.

Supporting them will be another performer in the 2017 festival concert, New Roots 2017 finalist, Bláthnaid McCullagh, now singing under the name of BLÁNID. She is a talented folk singer and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Northern Ireland and Devon and recently settled in London.  BLÁNID attributes her love for folk music to the stories behind the songs and she breathes new life into traditional folk while embracing contemporary folk with passion.

Turnwrest, from Watford, is made up of Chris, Mark, Liz, and Linda, singers who love sharing traditional and not so traditional songs of innocence and experience, of sea and of land.

Tickets: £12, Students and concessions £11. Under 18 £7.50
