Folk – Alden, Patterson and Dashwood + Martin Olyett + Lizzy Hardingham
Norwich based folk trio Alden Patterson and Dashwood played at the Alban Arena earlier this year as support to Show of Hands. They weave rich vocal harmonies, fiddle, dobro, guitar and mandolin around beautifully written original songs and melodies. The independently-released debut album ‘Call Me Home’ was written and produced at home in Norwich and is lovingly presented in attractive handmade covers, designed and hand-printed by the band. Their music takes influence from folk traditions from both sides of the Atlantic with uplifting instrumentals and self-penned songs depicting tales of young travellers, sleepy seas and their affection for home.
Martin Olyett is a singer songwriter, well known locally, who writes about a range of subjects, saying that he doesn’t consider himself folk, but writes about folk.
Lizzy Hardingham is a new young folk singer from Hertfordshire just starting out, performing a mixture of traditional, contemporary and original acoustic music. Her powerful but tender voice is intertwined with delicate guitar parts to tell a story. In 2018 she was a finalist in New Roots and was a runner up in Watford Folk Club’s Song Contest and Royston Folk Club’s Young Artist Competition.
